Waterfowl Observation Deck at Moraine State Park

An Accessible Birding Location in Butler County

Location: The Waterfowl Observation Deck is located at 40.92216 N, 80.06738 W. From Route 422, take the Prospect exit (Prospect Road, Route 528) to the North. Take the first, immediate Left onto Park Road. Follow this road for approximately 3/4 mile to the Waterfowl Observation deck. Park Rd is a dead end road. There is a sign for the Waterfowl Observation Deck, however if you pass it, you will end up in a parking lot and boat launch area of the lake. The Waterfowl Deck is about 1/4 mile from the end of Park Road.

Facilities:  There is a parking area that will hold 3-4 cars. In the unlikely event the parking lot is full, roadside parking is an option. From the parking lot, follow the brick path a few hundred feet to the Deck. The brick path is flat.  Once you arrive at the Deck, there is a wooden ramp leading to the covered Deck. The Deck itself has two benches.

There are park restrooms located between the Deck parking lot and the end of Park Road (towards the boat launch area). These restrooms may be closed in the winter. There is no water fountain available.

Likely Birds: The Waterfowl Observation Deck is a great spot for ducks and what you will see will vary depending on the time of the year. Some common birds include: Wood Ducks, Mallard, Ring Neck Ducks, Blue and Green Wing Teal, Gadwall, Pied Bill Grebe, Great Blue Heron, Osprey.
