Walking Trail at Butler County Community College

An Accessible Birding Location in Butler County

Location:  The Walking Trail at BC3 is located at the Main Campus, 107 College Drive, Butler, PA 16002. From Route 8, turn onto Decatur Drive and proceed up the hill. Campus Drive will be on the Left at the top of the hill and just around the bend (about 0.5 miles from Route 8). Once on College Drive, take the second right which will lead you up a short hill and into a parking lot. This lot has Visitor spaces which you can use for up to 2 hours.  If you plan to be there longer, you will have to purchase a parking pass from the college.

Facilities:  There are about 4 Visitor parking spaces in the lot described above. If you have a parking pass, you can park in any of the lots that are distributed throughout the campus. The walking trail loops the outer perimeter of the campus. If you are using a wheelchair, you can access the trail from the lot with the Visitor parking spaces. The trail is paved and smooth, however it does have hills in a few areas. The trail is 1 mile in length.

There are no public restrooms for those using the trail. There is one station located along the trail that allows you to alert campus police if needed.

Likely Birds: The trail passes a wetland feature, a field, and various areas with brush.  Likely birds include Song Sparrow, Black-capped Chickadees, Red-winged Blackbirds, and Raptors including Red-tailed Hawks.
